TE HONONGA - Hundertwasser Park Centre
The Te Hononga Kawakawa Community Centre can be found in the heart of Kawakawa, a small town in the Bay of Islands area of the Northland Region of New Zealand.
The Kawakawa Hundertwasser Park Charitable Trust was inspired by their friendship with Friedensreich Hundertwasser to create this wonderful project. It is located behind the world-famous Hundertwasser Toilets (opened in 1999)
Te Hononga is a community-led project and that fuses environmental build and design with natural materials, Toi Māori art, culture and shared community spaces.

Pat George joined the team of artists working on the project in 2019. By the start of the NZ lockdown in 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Pat was set to start the mosaic panels.
With the help of Steve her husband she spent the months in lockdown working in their studio creating numerous mosaic panels for the project.
The moment NZ was back to work, Pat started to work side by side with the tilers to create the bathrooms/toilets. By September 2020 the final touches and mosaic work on the Hundertwasser inspired pillars was being done, just in time for PM Jacinda Ardern to open the project to the public.
